"The First Watch", Richard Ansdell

20/06/2018 - Dogs, cats and art

Let's discover The First Watch (-/+ 1850) by the big English artist painter Richard Ansdell (1815-1885). He was specialized in animal painting and many of his works of art depict scenes with shepherds and their dogs. This artist was himself owner of dogs, this explains why he majestically translates with his brushes all the attributes of the dog, such as the texture of the hair and the dog's realistic attitudes. The First Watch is a moving painting because it sublimates the tight connexion and pure confidence that exist between the shepherd and his loyal companions. While one watches, the others are deeply asleep.
